An empty Netflix que or a stronger heart for others…

Lots of articles saying things like this virus will change America and how we do operate forward. And while, I am anxious to get back to ‘normal’ whatever that actually means, I know two things: God created us for real community so isolation for the rest of our lives is not in His plan and nothing ever comes into my life that I can’t use as a lesson.

I hope ‘the virus” as my kids call it, air quotes and all, does change me for the better and engraining in me those two things.

God created me for real life community, and He can get my attention if we let him. When I think about how many times I have opened an app -any app not here to vilify social media, during: church, a program at your kids school, in line at the bank, a business meeting, a sporting event,, a car trip, a playdate, a coffee date, a Bible Study, dinner with friends, a birthday party, a walk with others.. well you get the idea I am guilty.

I am quick to look to the digital world when given a spare minute but now that digital is what I mostly have I am craving humans. I pray this time of slowdown does change me, it stays with me to change my heart to enjoy the amazing community I am a part of to speak to my neighbor more at the ballfield, at dinner, in line at the bank.

So, Lord, I am asking for change. Change of my heart, my head and my life as we adjust and move forward and for that change to be long lasting as we move forward out of the quarantine stage someday. Help me remember I can come out of this time with a fearful heart and an empty Netflix que or a grateful heart and a stronger spirit with you.
